Join us for the first ever World Meet 2010. Microcar
and Minicar owners and their cars, will gather from
all over the world to share their enthusiasm for these
small wonders. They are expecting over 500 Micro and
Mini cars. Those cars under 500cc are considered to
be "Microcars", and those between 500-1500cc
are considered "Minicars".
These tiny cars, known as “Bubble Cars”,
evolved after WWII as European industries were starting
back to work and began producing cars for the masses.
They were underpowered and lightweight, sipping fuel
to get over 70 miles per gallon. These microcars were
capable of transporting families in relative comfort!
Some of the more commonly known marques include:
Austin Mini (UK)- 1st car to use a transversely mounted
850cc engine
Citroën 2CV (France)- the Ugly Ducking, 4 doors
& 435cc to 602cc engines
Crosley (USA)- ahead of its time in fuel economy, 717cc
engine
Fiat 500 (Italy)- Cinquecento many still in use today,
60 years after production began
Isetta (Italy & Germany)- one front mounted door
that had room for two people; 300cc
Messerschmitt (Germany)- tandem seating and airplane-type
opening canopy for entry
Subaru 360 (Japan)- yes, the baby of the Subaru family
- 2 cylinder 360cc engine
Velorex (Czech)- lightweight steel tube frame covered
with vinyl fabric; 200cc engine

Micros on the Monument, a new event that was held in
Downtown Racine last year, is returning to Monument
Square on Saturday, July 25, 2009. This unique event
features a display of vintage micro cars from the 50's
and 60's coming from throughout Wisconsin, Illinois,
Michigan, Indiana and Minnesota.
A vintage Micro car is described as small vehicle built
primarily in the 1950’s and 60’s under 11
feet long and/or having an engine with less than 700cc
engine displacement and with three or four wheels. Some
of the typical makes of micro cars include the BMW Isetta,
Citroen 2CV, Crosley, Daf, Goggomobile, King Midget,
Messerschmitt, NSU Prinz, Subaru 360, Vespa 400 and
more. Some micro cars are also commonly referred to
as “bubblecars” so called because of their
semi-spherical shape, such as the Heinkel, Messerschmitt
and Isetta.
Anyone wishing to display a micro car at this event
may contact Jim Garbo at kabinenroller@microcar.org
or 262-497-8610. There is no registration fee or admission
charge, but pre-registration is necessary.

work on modern MINI Coopers too. They also race classic
Minis, so they have fun stories to entertain you. On

"HI TOM" - These two
words spelled out with MINI Coopers in the parking lot
of a local hospital helped to raise the spirits of Milwaukee
and Chicago club member Tom who is going through a difficult
recovery following stem cell and bone marrow transplants.
More than 30 MINIs from as far away as Madison and
Chicago came out to the hospital in Milwaukee to wish
Tom well. THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!
We lined the cars up in the parking lot (okay, you
do have to use your imagination when you view the photos),
with several left over around the back. When the time
was right, Tom was taken for a walk to the visitor lounge
and saw the MINIs lined up outside. Tom was very surprised
and pleased at the small celebration held in the lounge.
After 4 weeks in the hospital, we were a welcome sight.

What do you think of when you think
of Milwaukee? Beer, Cheese, Brats, Bowling. We celebrated
our MINI fun with a Taste of Milwaukee/Oddities of Milwaukee
tour! This was not a scavenger hunt or twisty curvy
drive, but rather a great event for anyone with kids,
anyone who loves Milwaukee, and anyone who loves their
MINI. Plus there were many opportunities to be in several
unique photos along the way, and chances to sample various
tastes and activities of Milwaukee on this adventure.
We met at 9:45am for a pre-drive meeting and then cars
left PROMPTLY at 10:00 am. We were scrambled in different
directions as we discovered things even Milwaukee natives
have only dreamt of, ending at the Finish Line of Miller
Park together. All finisher MINIS earned a commemorative
Brew City MINI Tour decal.

Exercises included: Braking, Skidding,

If you missed this event, we're
sad to say that you missed out on seeing 75 MINIS and
115 enthusiasts gather for a great first event of the
2007 season.
Everyone thought that it would simply be a family-oriented,
fun-filled adventure with a warehouse tour of Jelly
Belly (complete with free samples nonetheless) in Pleasant
Prairie. But the big news was that the Chicago MINI
Motoring Club just happened to have their Spring Drive
the same day, and they just happened to drive north
to meet us at Jelly Belly. We met in the parking lot,
and after the Jelly Belly tour and free samples, we
took a scenic route to Kenosha to enjoy lunch at The
Boathouse.
As this was the first day of day-light savings, we
were impressed that so many didn't forget to set their
clocks ahead - THANK YOU to everyone for joining us!

| The Michigan MINI Motor Club held an event
named the MINI's Great Lakes Crossing. This event was
a scenic tour of Lake Michigan, with special stops along
the route in northern Wisconsin, Michigan Upper Peninsular
and Northern Lower Peninsular. The fall colors were
spectacular.
After breakfast in Michigan, the group headed to the
Lake Express Ferry, taking the ferry to Milwaukee. We
met the Michigan Minis at 11:45 AM at the unloading
dock of the Lake Ferry Express just south of Downtown
Milwaukee. Then we caravan'd with the 31 MINIS to International
Autos for lunch at 1:00 PM. After lunch, some of us
joined the Michigan MINIS on the rest of their journey.

The Fall Foliage Poker Run was held recently,
with a pre-drive meeting at American TV in Waukesha,
and then a 65-mile adventure including rustic roads
in the Holy Hill area and the Kettle Moraine Scenic
Drive in the Lake Country area. Afterwards, we ate lunch
at Water Street Brewery. The drive included a number
of stops along the way where each driver collected a
playing card. The driver with the best poker hand at
the end of the drive won a "brand new MINI, some assembly
required!"
